VERY Critical Switch 2 Thoughts Two Days Later

Image
So the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct happened two days ago, and now that some time’s passed and more info has dropped, I think the honeymoon phase is kinda over. I wanna really sit down and give my thoughts on the console—where it stands now, how it fits into Nintendo’s legacy, what Nintendo consoles mean to me as someone who’s been playing them my whole life, and what I think the future holds for the company. First off, let's talk about the Switch 2 itself. It looks like a great console—like, genuinely. Tons of improvements over the original Switch, and it’s a big deal that, for the first time since the GameCube, Nintendo’s finally caught up with industry-standard hardware. That whole era of third-party games getting butchered to run on the Switch? Hopefully over. Multiplats won’t be downgraded into oblivion, and games will actually run on par with other platforms. Plus, with mouse support and new control features, there's potential for DS games, touch screen titles, and even bet...

AIR RIDE RETURNS!!!

Image
Kirby Air Ride is one of my all-time favorite games—it's honestly my second favorite game ever made, and it holds such a special place in my heart. It’s brought me so much fun and joy, and I still think it’s one of the most amazing spin-offs out there. It’s a simple yet incredibly fun racing game, but it’s also unique in a way that makes it stand out. The game design is really smart, and it’s full of little details that make it shine. Air Ride is a major landmark for the Kirby series too, as it introduced some of the key developers at HAL, like Kumazaki, who was a designer on this game. He would later go on to play a huge role in the Kirby franchise, eventually taking the lead on the series. It's also significant because it was the last Kirby title directed by Masahiro Sakurai, the original creator and director of the series. Sakurai would go on to head up *Super Smash Bros.* under his independent game company "Sora," with his wife, Michiko Sakurai, who’s also a for...

Donkey Kong Bananza ~ Innovation In The Face Of Legacy

Image
So, Donkey Kong. We all know him, we’ve all seen him, and we all love him. Or at least, I hope you do too. If not... well, you should START loving the KING. And guess what? The KING is finally back with a brand new game after ELEVEN years! That’s right—ELEVEN! It's been forever since Tropical Freeze, but not only is this the first new DK platformer since that game, it’s also 3D! That’s right, the first 3D Donkey Kong game since Donkey Kong 64 in 1999, which was developed by Rare. The game’s called Donkey Kong Bananza, and it’s a total reinvention for the Switch 2 generation. It’s a completely new platformer with DK at the center, and while it takes some inspiration from the old Rare games, it mostly leaves behind the aesthetic and characters from the Donkey Kong Country series, which has caused some controversy. This shift is likely because the game wasn’t developed by a second party like most DK platformers since Rare rebooted the series. Instead, it’s being made in-house by Nin...

Mario Kart World Blew My Mind

Image
So, today was the big Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, and it was packed with some exciting reveals. There were a ton of games that caught my eye, and I definitely need to talk more about them. But for now, I want to focus on the big launch title: Mario Kart World! As you all probably know, it’s been about 11 years since we got a brand new console Mario Kart game, and 5 years since a brand-new Mario Kart release overall. So, this one really has a lot to live up to. Nintendo’s been taking Their sweet time, and it shows. They've put in some serious effort to make sure Mario Kart World stands on its own, which is especially important after the 2022-2023 Booster Course Pass turned MK8 Deluxe into whats basically the definitive Mario Kart experience. The name of the game says it all—Mario Kart World lets us travel across a huge open world with tons of freedom. The racer count is also doubling. Instead of the usual 12 players from MK8 or even 16 from Mario Kart Wii, we’re now looking at 24 ra...

Lupin III Part IV Review ~ The Italian Adventure Of Love And Freedom

Image
Lupin III Part IV: The Italian Adventure is a unique entry in the *Lupin III* franchise, pushing the boundaries of the series while retaining its classic elements. The 2015 anime series combines high-stakes heists, psychological elements, romance, and philosophical exploration into a cohesive and engaging narrative. Set against the backdrop of Italy, the series explores the legacy of historical figures, identity, memory, and the clash between individual will and overarching societal control. At its core, it delves into questions of freedom, self-determination, and the role of art in shaping the world. In Part IV, Lupin and his crew face not just external antagonists but also confront complex, deeply psychological forces that challenge their moral compass. The narrative introduces a series of innovative ideas, chief among them being the concept of "Il Sogno Italiano" or "The Dream of Italy," which serves as both a literal and metaphorical battleground for the charact...
